March Chapter Program - Denver

Growing Your Business by Advising Company Retirement Plans

Speaker: Skip Schweiss

Americans have saved over $25 trillion in retirement accounts.  You are probably advising on Individual Retirement Accounts, which represent close to 1/3 of that total.  But, what about opportunities in retirement plans?  How does that market break down?  Where are the opportunities, and how are advisers growing in that space?  How are regulations helping the fiduciary investment adviser, including on advising IRA rollovers?  This session will explore those topics, with a goal of educating the audience on this fast-growing sector, and motivating the financial planner looking for a niche growth strategy with tens of millions of Americans putting money into these plans every month.

Learning Objectives:

  1. The size of the opportunity in advising retirement plans
  2. Services needed to run a retirement plan, including fiduciary status
  3. How investment advisers are servicing retirement plans

Speaker Bio: Skip Schweiss is president of TD Ameritrade Trust Company, where he’s responsible for retirement plan services offered through investment advisers.  He is also Managing Director of Advisor Advocacy at TD Ameritrade.  He sits on the FPA’s national board of directors, is president of NAPFA’s Consumer Education Foundation.  In 2014 and 2016 he was named by Investment Adviser magazine as one of its top 25 most influential people in the industry.  In 2015 he was named Fiduciary of the Year by the Committee for the Fiduciary Standard, and in 2016 he was named  Insider’s Forum Leadership Award winner
