Divorce: Advising clients, before, during and after

Panel discussion with a CDFA (Sandi Gumeson), Mediator(Beth Henson) and Attorney (David Littman) and Moderator (Ben Briggs).

Get a refresher on the various options available to a divorcing couple. This panel will cover the essential subjects for divorce and help you understand what needs to be reviewed and what questions need to be asked. Various assets will be discussed and how they are used in financial settlements.  Register to attend and you will understand what needs to happen when a business is involved in the divorce.

Sandi Gumeson, CPA (CA license), CDFA® is a Financial Analyst® with extensive experience in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.  She is a member of the American Institute of Public Accountants and the Institute of Divorce Financial Analysts. Sandi brings a wealth of experience as a Financial Executive and Senior Auditor at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Beginning her career at PWC as an audit and tax intern, she quickly became a senior associate.  In 2000, she joined Ryland Homes, a fortune 500 national homebuilding company, and ultimately became a Controller and VP Finance for the San Diego Division. Ms. Gumeson graduated from Colorado State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Accounting. Sandi’s extensive experience in finance, analysis, operations, budgeting, and forecasting enables her to provide a high level of expertise in understanding the overall financial picture of clients.  This results in an in-depth understanding of the financial workings of small, medium and large companies, as well as personal finances.

 Beth Henson is an attorney who specializes in divorce and other family law mediation. Beth mediates all family-law matters, including:

  • Divorce
  • Parental responsibilities (formerly known as custody)
  • Child support
  • Maintenance
  • Division of property and debt
  • Post-decree issues
  • College expenses

Her practice is focused on helping parties move through a difficult process, combining dignity, grace, and self-determination with education, information and experienced guidance. She believes that you are far better suited than the court system to decide your own future and the future of your children. Sometimes, though, people need some direction getting to resolution – that's where mediation comes in.

David Littman, Esq., has over thirty-five years of experience as a trial attorney.  He is a former Chair of the Family Law Section of the Colorado Bar Association and remains on the FLS Executive Council.  David received his law degree from Washington University in St. Louis, where he also obtained graduate degrees in counseling psychology and behavioral science. He was a founding member and on the board of Colorado Collaborative Law Professionals. He currently serves as a member of the MDIC [Metro Denver Interdisciplinary Committee] board and is a former board chair of Colorado CASA.  He is a member of the Supreme Court Standing Committee on Family Issues.  He has emphasized family law in his practice, spending a significant portion of his time representing both parents and children. 

His education and training enable him to address complex mental health issues, drug and alcohol abuse issues and certain medical issues that arise in the context of family law matters.  David also served as a magistrate on a part time basis in Jefferson and Denver County courts.  His practice presently emphasizes family law, mediation, arbitration, Child and Family Investigation work, Decision Making and representation of parties in the traditional and collaborative law models.  He is a published author on family law issues and a frequent speaker at continuing legal education conferences.  He is a committed mentor and consultant to younger attorneys, both within and outside his own practice.

In the past three years, David has both written and spoken on issues involving client competency and professionalism in family law cases.  David's dog friendly office is located in a Victorian house in Capitol Hill.  Kai, an extremely intuitive and bright Border Collie, presides over the office and offers warmth and comfort to clients and friends.

Ben Briggs (Moderator) 

Ben Briggs, CPA, CFP®, MS is a Financial Planner with Creative Planning, Inc., a national wealth management firm based in Leawood, Kansas.  He has experience in public accounting, wealth management and collaborative divorce.  Mr. Briggs received a Bachelor of Business in Financial Consulting from the Southern Methodist University Cox School of Business and a Master of Science in Accounting and Information Management from the University of Texas at Dallas.  He recently migrated from Dallas to Denver in hopes of expanding his career and enjoying the outdoor lifestyle. 


FPA of Colorado Cancellation Policy

Registration cancellation for a refund or a transfer to the next chapter meeting may be requested by no later than Noon on the Tuesday prior to the meeting date. No refunds or transfers will be issued after that date.

Emergency Action Plan

In the event of an emergency at our facility during one of our events, the Board of DIrectors of FPA of Colorado and the Wellshire have created a plan to try and ensure the safety of our attendees. Please read more and be prepared.
