About Us

Primary Aim

FPA® of Colorado is committed to helping you realize your vision of success with Practice Support, Learning, Advocacy, and Networking (PLAN). FPA of Colorado promotes universal acceptance of the value and necessity of the financial planning process.

History

If the FPA® is the heart of Financial Planning, then Colorado is the heart of the FPA®. Not only is our state the home of national headquarters, but we are also the founding state of the parent organizations, the former home of the CFP Board, and the home of the College for Financial Planning. Many national leaders in the industry either came from or currently reside in Colorado.

The FPA® itself is young. On January 1, 2000, members of the Institute of Certified Financial Planners (ICFP) and the International Association for Financial Planning (IAFP) combined forces to create the Financial Planning Association (FPA®). FPA® is the leadership and advocacy organization connecting those who provide, support, and benefit from professional financial planning.

The Financial Planning industry is young. From its earliest roots in the 1970s, financial planners recognized the need to separate advice from product sales. Stockbrokers, insurance agents, and other folks all are welcome as members of the FPA® as long as we swear to put our client’s interests ahead of our own. Additionally, and importantly, the FPA® supports the certified financial planner, CFP® mark, and although many of our members do not hold this mark, we all adhere to the highest ethical standards.

The future of the FPA® is the future of America. Indeed, this quite possibly could be the best profession in America!
